Accent Natural Gold^TM

Accent Natural Gold^TM is the name given by Jewelry Material Innovations, Inc. (JMI) to a line of natural gold nuggets and flakes for adding accents to fine silver and sterling jewelry.  Accent Natural Gold^TM (ANG) denotes nuggets and flakes that have been recovered during mining operations from either the Mother Lode region of California or the goldfields of Alaska.  ANG has the purity that Nature provided, which is typically 20 to 22 K (about 85% to 92% gold).  ANG is finding applications in silver clay jewelry as artists discover its applicability for adding eye-catching accents.  Accent Natural Gold^TM is available in an assortment of nuggets ranging in size from a few millimeters to about one centimeter in length, and also in small flakes.  It is recommended that small particles of Accent Natural Gold^TM be inlaid into recessed regions of jewelry settings so that the sides of the recessed regions provide protection against abrasion.  A number of methods exist for attaching ANG to jewelry, as described JMI’s information sheet titled Methods of Attaching JMI Accents.   

Accent Natural Gold^TM can be applied to both fine and sterling silver settings.  If a method of attachment to sterling silver is used that involves heating the sterling piece above about 840F (450C), a dark layer, or fire scale, may form that will require subsequent removal.  Depletion gild the sterling piece before using a method of attachment that requires a high temperature.  Doing this eliminates the need to remove severe fire scale after ANG has been attached, which would require more delicate handling of the piece.
